One-Room School 1871-1954. This school was located on Route 896 just west of Forestville. Penn's Grove was constructed of brick with 3 large windows on each side of the building and 2 in the front looking on to the porch, one on each side. These had shutters painted green and white. This porch was even higher than the others with 7 steps in the center of the porch. The porch was surrounded by 2 horizontal rails. A pump sat on the porch to pump water from a well beneath but became non operational several years before the school closed and then water was carried from the neighbors. This school was also heated by a large stove in the classroom and later in the basement. There was also a large school bell on the center of the roof. Teachers listed are:
